Surrounded by cast members from the Players Guild’s latest musical, “Rock of Ages,” it was easy to feel their bursting enthusiasm. They were non-stop grinning and laughing while talking about all aspects of the show, from its parade of ’80s rock hits to their hair-band wigs and glam-metal garb. “It’s sexy. Sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll,” said Carly Amerling, who plays Sherrie, a fresh young waitress at the rowdy Sunset Strip rock club where “Rock of Ages” unfolds, circa 1987. “But it’s a parody of that era as well.” CLICK HERE, to read the full article.

Ameling, who attended Kent State University for a year before transferring to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, graduated from the AMDA’s integrated musical theater program in 2017. She started working soon afterward, playing Katrina Van Tassel in the new musical “Sleepy Hollow” for the New York New Works Theatre Festival.

The actress said transitioning from her conservatory studies to the New York audition circuit wasn’t difficult: Her last semester at AMDA, classes were in the evenings so students could make daytime auditions, which she did nearly daily. CLICK HERE, to read the full article.

Presenting Transformation and Nostalgia . . .

On the intimate stage of the Players Guild Theatre the musicians (led by Steve Parsons) and performers play popular songs from Twisted Sister, Pat Benatar, Styx, Journey, and Bon Jovi. Many of the audience members had to restrain their urge to hum these nostalgic songs. The charm of this musical is a “spoof” used to illuminate self-reflexivity and humor. . .

Carly Ameling’s Sherrie shows a transformation from a small-town girl to a performer who recognizes her true needs and passion (after she goes through a series of compromises and disillusionment). Sean Fleming portrays a naïve but committed rock star (to be) in the age of competition and change. CLICK HERE, to read the full article.
